BUYING GUIDE
PUMA Speedcat OG vs Ballet buying guide
Compare Speedcat OG, Ballet and the Daniƫlle Cathari edition by construction, fit, exact style number and buying route.
Why Speedcat matters
PUMA describes the Speedcat as a low-profile silhouette rooted in motorsport footwear. The family now spans lace-up OG versions, ballet-inspired variants and designer collaborations. Buy by the exact style code, not merely the Speedcat name.
OG versus Ballet
Speedcat OG
The black-and-white OG reference, style 398846_01, has a leather upper, suede Formstrip, rubber outsole and laces. PUMA also sells OG releases in other materials and color suffixes, so check the exact product page.
Speedcat Ballet
PUMA's suede Ballet reference 401287_02 uses a suede upper and elastic bands across the foot. Its fastening, cut and fit feel differ from the lace-up OG. Other Ballet versions use leather or mixed materials; do not assume all Ballet pairs are identical.
Daniƫlle Cathari collaboration
PUMA's September 26, 2026 release reworks Speedcat in burgundy leather with an archive-inspired laceless construction. It is a separate collaboration, not a standard OG or Ballet colorway. Verify its own style code and retailer listing before comparing price or sizing.
Choosing a size
Use PUMA's size chart for the precise item and market. The narrow, low-profile appearance does not establish a universal half-size rule. Check customer fit notes as a secondary signal, and consider the fastening difference between the OG and Ballet. For used pairs, confirm the internal tag's regional size.
Where to buy and compare
Start with PUMA's OG product page and PUMA's Ballet product page. Check variant-specific stock, regional prices, taxes and returns before buying. Collaboration stock should be confirmed at the named retailer; a press release alone is not a live inventory feed.
New and used buying checks
- Match complete style number and color suffix on the product page, box and size label.
- Check suede nap or leather surface, toe scuffs, outsole edge and heel drag.
- Compare delivered price and returns rather than headline price alone.
- Keep OG, Ballet and collaborations in separate comparisons.
